Life! What For?

“So, What do you think is the purpose of life?”

“Huh” I blurted out. What kind of question was that I thought.

“What do you think you were born for?”

“I am a computer engineer.”

“So, do you think you were born to become an engineer. What I mean to ask is that if you are successful in computer engineering then your life is complete and you are satisfied? Can you spend your life writing programs? ”

“Can’t say that. Engineering is just a way of getting me the knowledge to become successful, earn enough money and have a successful life.”

“So becoming successful is the purpose of your life?”

“Yes definitely.”

“For the purpose of conversation, let me ask you this, If you die after you become successful then you will have no regrets?”

“Hmmm, if you put it that way then no, once my family has that kind of security then, (s you bluntly put) I can die.”

“So you want to live for your family.”

“Yes.”

“Tell me one thing then, when you were born, did you know that you were going to be a computer engineer and then that you will have a family and you have to be successful for you family to be secure after you.”

“No, of course not. They come as you get older.”

“So don’t you think goals or purpose or responsibilities are much better words to explain these things.”

Oh man … me and my big mouth.

“Yes they definitely are better words.”

“So I ask you again, let me rephrase it to you. Do you think there is something you have to do for which you were born. Something that makes your life meaningful. Don’t you think so, that otherwise your life would be like any other individual just born lived and died.?”

(She actually makes sense.)

“So you think that everyone here was born to do something, something with a purpose.”

“Well, Don’t you think so?”

“Well yes… but..”

“So what do you think is your purpose of life? What I’m asking is what is your destiny?” She asked with a smile.

GOD?

“Why?” She asked, “If you don’t mind might I ask you a personal question?” “Yes” I said, “Go ahead.”

“Do you believe in God?”

I became skeptical, as I was expecting something else. “Come on, in this world of today!! Where man is breaking down nuclei to find out what it is made up of and sending up probes to mars to find out if there is life on it. Seventy five years ago Hubble proved that the universes were as a result of the Big Bang and not some divine creation. As an engineer I am afraid my answer to this is a no.”

“So you have no belief in God.”

“I guess not.”

“So you are telling me you have not taken God’s name or rather God has not helped you in any way.”

“Of course what I am today is because of what I have done and not because God had planned it for me.”

“Can I ask you something else? Have you ever done something unbelievable which you thought you would never be able to do or have you ever seen somebody do anything unbelievable?”

“Like in the movies??”

“No not like in movies, Most of them are setup or special effects. More like in reality shows, where people perform unbelievable stunts.”

“Hmm well I am a fan of reality shows and the stunts they show on that channel are quite questionable and I always thought how they did it.”

“And what about you, what do you do when you want to get by something, let’s say a deadline.”

“Well I had faith in myself. I said to myself that I could do it and I did it. But it wasn’t like god told me.”

“So you mean to say that a little voice inside you helped you.”

“Well you can put it that way.”

“What do you think that people who do things, think about when they do it.”

“They must be asking God to take care of them when they do things unexplainable.”

“But god is not there right?? So how do they do those things?”

“Well they have faith in god. The GOD they believe in of course.”

“So why do you think GOD is another being or a supernatural entity. Why can’t God be the thought itself. You believe in yourself or your potential to get by things. People believe in God. So do you see something similar.”

“You mean to say that God is faith.”

“Why couldn’t faith be God. Previously when unexplainable things happened people attributed them to be actions of God, and that concept has been passed on from generation to generation, however most of the things are today explainable by science. Still there are some things, like heroic actions of people and origin of thought itself for example, that are unexplainable by science. In those situations the only thing that gets us by is faith, may it be in itself or any other entity or rather God. It’s only a matter a perception that people have. Don’t you think so?”

Yaadon Mein!

Pehle sirf khamooshion mein tumhari yaad aati thi,
Aaj kal har pal khaamoshi chaayi rehti hai.
Akele rehte to shaayad mar bhi jaate,
Par tanhaaion mein bhi tumhaari yaad satati rehti hai.

Yeh Zindagi bhi kitni Ajeeb Hai..
Kabhi khushi deti hai to kabhi gam,
Chalte rehte hain Hum kiski talash mein?..
Kabhi saath mein kisike, to kabhi akele hum!

Sometimes..

- Maverick

Sometimes life seems to be slowing down,
When days seem dull with no joy or fun..
Sometimes days seem to be flying by,
And it looks like you have missed your turn..

Then there is that unanswered question,
You can seem to get past it..
But you just let go and carry on,
'Cause all You can do is get used to it..

Sometimes friends leave,
Sometimes love is lost..
You heart feels heavy,
Like a dark spell is cast..

Everything changes from there on,
And you cant seem to forget it..
But You wipe your tears and carry on,
'Cause all You can do is just get used to it..

One moment you are flying high,
When sometimes without reason..
The next moment you fall to the pavement,
Your wings break and it hurts a ton..

It feels like you can make it on your own,
And you will not get over it..
But you just pick yourself up and carry on,
'Cause all you can do is get used to it..

Sometimes you cant see whats ahead,
Your hearts filled with this binding unrest..
Where you are going seems so unknown,
Whats next is but only a guess..

But you pick a way and carry on,
'Cause all you can do is just get used to it..

Sometimes... Sometimes..

Aashiq..

Uski yaad tadpati hain har roz,
Hum jise kal apna bana na sake..
Ab Kal maut bhi aaye to hamein gila nahi,
Jaayenge woh naam leke, jiski yaad mein jee na sake.

Aye Ishq ko naadan samajh kar hasne wale,
Kabhi gaur kar ik aashiq ke afsaane gam ke..
Dard-e-mohabbat mein jo sukoon milta hai hamein,
Kabhi aake dekh is gali mein deewana banke..

Zindagi....

Arz Kiya Hai...

Hasta hua chehra to bas hamari duniyadaari hai,
Aansoon bahate rahe hum tanhaayion mein..
Dhoondhte jawabon ki roshni, zindagi bhar ek taraf,
Aur Ek taraf kaate raaste, sawaalon ki parchaayion mein..

How did I Celebrate my New Year!!

I always wondered what is the best way to celebrate the coming of a "New Year" and I never got a definite answer. I have yet to actually celebrate the coming of a new year. Usually I used to watch TV watching the world around partying all night like crazy, counting down to the last second of the passing year and shouting their hearts out as clock strikes 12. Sadly my cable was out this week and I was deprived of my yearly tradition.

But I think this was my best last day of the year yet. Why? Because the events of the day couldn't have been any better for me! I woke up at 10:30, and after the usual morning routine reached office at about 12 (yeah, I know). My team was already there celebrating by playing a game of counter-strike. I joined in and we altogether enjoyed brutally shooting each other in the head for about 2 hours, after which it was time for lunch.
Lunch was a bit mellow with chitchat over office food about what we did over the weekend and how and if we had made any plans for the night. After lunch we continued with the game for about another 2 hours(and you think we actually worked, :D).

Finally something I had been waiting for about two weeks. Two of my best friends who had gone to the US were visiting and had come to meet. So I immediately left the game and went down to our local snacks restaurant for an evening of getting updated on whats been going on in everybody's life, teasing each other on various topics, serious discussions on the future and its prospects. Time flew, literally. We talked for about four and half hours, after which I went back to my office, and not so surprisingly found it empty. It was 3 hours till midnight. So I started going through my huge collection of pictures to actually see what amount of fun I had in the last year. I found lots of friends, lots of creations, and lots of puzzles we used to play with. It brought back all the nostalgic moments. I began uploading all the photos and it took me almost an hour.

Finally I went home. My brother had just come back from bombay, so we decided we would check out the night life on the last day and celebrate my brothers last day as a bachelor. So we took the car, with my brother driving at full speed over the flyovers, overtaking almost everybody. When we reached the happening places, we just cruised through watching all the glitter and noise. My brother got tired and we raced back home and we were back 15 mins before midnight. On the way we stopped at Mc Donalds for a midnight snack, and i took just a plain vanilla cone.

Back home still eating the cone, I messaged everybody wishing them a new year, tried to call a close friend of mine, whose mobile was sadly switched off. It was almost midnight and it all came down to standing in my balcony eating vanilla ice-cream hearing the sounds of the new year arriving with booms and bangs.

10 mins later I was fast asleep. Nice way to celebrate the new years, dont u think?

.
Wishing you a Convoluting in terms of happiness, Randomised in terms of surprises, Filtering in terms of sorrows, and Compunding in terms of prosperity and a very New as in never before experienced New Year!
